I’m actually starting to feel the pressure about getting this indepth video breakdown of why Steven Moffat is doing a bad job with Doctor Who after today

If you’re blissfully unaware, apparently Steven Moffat deleted his twitter account, and people are saying it’s because he was getting death threats while his wife is saying that he deleted it because the fights he was getting into with fans were just too time-consuming and he has too much on his plate right now

Either way, what’s happening now is that there’s this weird massive backlash against anyone who has anything bad to say about Steven Moffat and his writing style

I’ll get this out of the way, sending death threats to anyone for any reason is a shitty thing to do, let alone because you don’t like what they bring to a show you typically enjoy

That being said, Steven Moffat should absolutely be the subject of criticism for his sloppy, exploitative writing style, and anger for the inherent sexism, racism and queer-baiting the aforementioned writing style displays

And if you think it does not display that sort of inherent although sometimes subtle bigotry, you are either

    1. Not a member of the groups that deal with that shit on a day-to-day basis, or
    2. Just too stupid to see it

Which isn’t to gloss over the people who know it’s there but think it’s totally fine and harmless, because I know there’s a lot of you out there too who defend his writing style by essentially saying “so what”

But above all else, the thing that baffles me the most is people who say “if you’re going to criticize something, don’t watch it”

Wh… okay come on. Just think about what you’re saying. Why would I watch this show if I didn’t find something to like about it? I don’t watch Glee. That’s a show with no redeeming qualities to me. I do not bother writing analyses of Glee because there’s nothing enjoyable about watching Glee long enough to articulate any semblance of critical analysis

I’m watching Doctor Who because at its best, it showcases solid writing with believable emotion and a wonderful sense of humanity and wit to it, which helps the science fiction behind it all feel even more alive. What you need to understand is that what Steven Moffat does to the overall direction of the show is currently adding it up to something that is much, much less than the sum of its parts. Don’t be so stupid as to pretend that watching that happen isn’t incredibly frustrating

So just you frickin’ watch me criticize it

    It’s NERF or nothin’!

    bless this post.
